Introduction to ImageJ


ImageJ is a public domain, Java-based image analysis program developed at the U.S. National Institutes of Health. it was designed with an open architecture that provides extensibility via Java plugins and recordable macros. Custom acquisition, analysis and processing plugins can be developed using ImageJ's built-in editor and Java compiler. ImageJ runs as an online applet or as a downloadable application on any computer with a Java 1.5 or later virtual machine. Distributions are available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Image is the core of the ImageJ2, Fiji, Micro-manager and MBF projects. The Java source code is freely available. This workshop will consist of a two hour demonstration of ImageJ with time allowed for questions and answers. Topics to be covered include installation and upgrading ImageJ, opening files using drag and drop, keyboard shortcuts, using tools, the ROI Manager, lookup tables, overlays, stacks, hyperstacks, curve fitting, plotting, 3D visualization and the pros and cons of plugins, macros and scripts.
