Introduction to ImageJ


I will be giving a quick tour of the ImageJ program and the ImageJ website. I will review ImageJ menu commands, windows, tools, status bar and memory management. I will demonstrate video capture, image enhancement, background correction, segmentation, measurement, particle analysis, and macro recording. The workshop will be aimed at new ImageJ users but experienced users may also learn a few things. There will be ample time for questions and discussion.

Participant Requirements

Participants should have installed ImageJ and played with some of the sample images.

Biography of Speaker

I have been a software developer at the National Institutes of Health for 35 years. In the 70s I developed image analysis software for the PDP-11 minicomputer. From 1983 to 1996 I worked on the NIH Image program for the Macintosh. From 1997 to the present I have been working on ImageJ. I have a masters degree in computer science from the University of Maryland.
